FIRST LEGO League Championship Awards

The Champions's Award   is the most prestigious of the awards. It encompasses the aspects of the Robot Design Award, the Robot Performance Award, the Project Award, and the Core Values Awards.


The Young Team Award  is restricted to teams made up of children in 4th and/or 5th grades and encompasses the aspects of the Robot Design Award, the Robot Performance Award, the Project Award, and the Core Values Award.

The Rookie Team Award  is restricted to team members that have never participated in an FLL tournament before and encompasses the aspects of the Robot Design Award, the Robot Performance Award, the Project Award, and the Core Values Award.

Robot Performance Award - This award recognizes a team that scores the most points during the Robot Game. Teams have a chance to compete in at least three 2.5 minute matches and their highest score counts. At the FLL Championship 1st and 2nd place Robot Performance Awards are presented.

Robot Design is comprised of three sub-category awards for 1st and 2nd Place.

-Mechanical Design - This award recognizes a team that designs and develops a mechanically sound robot that is durable, efficient and highly capable of performing challenge missions.

-Programming - This award recognizes a team that utilizes outstanding programming principles, including clear, concise and reusable code that allows their robot to perform challenge missions autonomously and consistently.

-Strategy and Innovation - This award recognizes a team that uses solid engineering practices and a well‐developed strategy to design and build an innovative, high performing robot.

Project is comprised of three sub-category awards for 1st and 2nd Place.

-Research - This award recognizes a team that utilizes diverse resources to formulate an in‐depth and comprehensive understanding of the problem they have identified.

-Innovative Solution - This award recognizes a team's solution that is exceptionally well‐considered and creative, with goodpotential to solve the problem researched.

-Presentation - This award recognizes a team that effectively communicates the problem they have identified and their proposed solution to both the judges and other potential supporters.

Core Values is comprised of three sub-category awards for 1st and 2nd Place.

-Inspiration - This award celebrates a team that is empowered by their FLL experience and displays extraordinary enthusiasm and spirit.

-Teamwork - This award recognizes a team that is able to accomplish more together than they could as individuals through shared goals, strong communication, effective problem solving and excellent time management.

-Gracious Professionalism™ -This award recognizes a team whose members show each other and other teams respect at all times. They recognize that both friendly competition and mutual gain are possible, on and off the playing field

Oregon FIRST Tech Challenge Sponsor Recognition Naming Options

Qualifying Events

FTC Qualifying Tournament Presenting sponsor - sponsor's name is included in the tournament title for one qualifying event of your choice. For example: Oregon FTC Qualifying Event at Hillsboro High School "presented by sponsor name".

Championship Event
The sponsor's name would be associated with a specific element or aspect of the the Oregon 2011 FIRST TECH Challenge Championship to be held at South Meadows Middle School, Hillsboro on February 25 - 26, 2011.

FTC Competition Field - 12' x 12' Competition field with Challenge elements. Two FTC fields are used at the Championship. Four FTC teams compete in each match during the qualifying and elimination rounds.

FTC Pit Area - The tournament area where team make mechanical and programming adjustments to their robot.

FTC Practice Field - 12' x 12' Competition field with Challenge elements used in the Pit area by the teams for Practice.

Qualifying Rounds - The initial set of matches played by all teams to seed teams for the elimination rounds.

Elimination Rounds - The top four teams choose 2 alliance partners to form four three-team alliances to compete for the Finalist and Winning Alliance Awards. The Winning Alliance is invited to the FTC World Championship.
