TOURNAMENT FEE STRUCTURE CHANGE for FIRST Tech Challenge Oregon events in the 2016/2017 season.
An email sent to the ORTOP Community on July 11, 2016 by Bruce Schafer, ORTOP Executive Director, outlined the new tournament fee structure change implemented by an executive committee of the ORTOP Board of Directors. The new policy is as follows:
ORTOP is adjusting its fee structure to a sliding scale to better reflect the cost of delivering its programs.
Information on requesting a discount off the full cost of program cost.
ORTOP’s registration fees are set to cover the approximate cost per team of providing our programs each year. If your team cannot afford the full registration fee you can request that ORTOP use sponsor funds to provide your team a discount. During the current season, all discount requests will be honored as long as a reason is given using the options provided below (check all that apply).
___Our fundraising has fallen short this year.
___We're a new team and haven't had time to do enough fundraising.
___Our team members come from families with limited economic means.
___Kits or equipment have used up most of our available funds.
___Our team will incur significant travel expenses to attend the event.
___Our team expenses are higher than we expected them to be.
ORTOP Registration Fee Changes for the 2016-2017 Season
As most of you know, the registration fees charged by ORTOP cover only a portion of the cost of operating our FIRST programs in Oregon. Fortunately, we have been able to recruit sponsor dollars to make up most of the difference but most sponsors want us to use their donations to help teams that couldn’t participate otherwise. To help assure the sponsor dollars are used most effectively, we have decided to make the estimated full cost per team more visible. Starting with the fall 2016 seasons we are asking teams to pay twice the amount as last year but giving them the option to pay less than that amount. The minimum fee for the upcoming season will be same as the full fee for last season. Starting this fall, the ORTOP registration system will provide an easy way to request a discount and give a reason for the request. All requests that are completely filled out will be honored at least for the upcoming season.
