Inclement Weather and Cancellation Policy
|
Oregon Robotics Tournament and Outreach Program Inclement Weather and Cancellation Policy |
The safety of the team members and our volunteers is the most important consideration. The FIRST LEGO League Operational Partners for Oregon use that consideration to guide all decisions when deciding to cancel or delay an event. Oregon's FLL Operational Partners will cancel or delay an event using information from the US Weather Bureau to help us forecast if it would be safe for a majority of the teams/volunteers to travel to and from the event. If the site host closes their facility because of weather, health and emergency related reasons, the event will be canceled. Coaches and parents must always assess their own travel route for safety and make their own decision to travel. Keep it in perspective. The safety of the kids is the most important consideration. Official information site for tournament cancellations or delays . In addition, ORTOP and QT Directors will email to both the primary and emergency contact email addresses with notification or updates. The third method of contact is by phone using the emergency phone number provided by the coach. If any of this information has changed since October, please update your Qualifying Tournament Director. Please note: If an event is canceled it is impossible to reschedule it. Site hosts have booked their facilities months in advance. There is no time to reschedule prior to the Championship. State Championship slots left open by an event cancelation will be assigned by lottery from teams affected by the cancelation. Revised 10/01/11 |

MONDAY, DECEMBER 10th Dear Intel Oregon FIRST® LEGO® League Championship Coaches and Mentors! Congratulations!!! This email is being sent to 114 FLL teams who received a 1st Place Champions Award, 2nd Place Champions Award or an ACE (Advancement to Championship Event) at an Oregon FLL Qualifying Tournament. Three more teams remain to be added next weekend. THE INTEL OREGON FLL CHAMPIONSHIPS WILL BE HELD ON SATURDAY, JANUARY 19TH AND SUNDAY, JANUARY 20TH AT LIBERTY HIGH SCHOOL IN HILLSBORO, OREGON. I need to collect information from you again but much shorter than the QT form. It is very important that you ask ALL of your team parents about date conflicts. Once the assignments are published, that’s it, no changes. We are racing against the clock to get everything ready. With Grants Pass a week late, we’re losing a week. ON WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 12, 2012 AT 5:00 PM, I WILL SEND YOU AN EMAIL WITH A LINK TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP INFORMATION PAGE AND THE ONLINE REGISTRATION LINK. MORE POPULAR QUESTION EVER – What can the team change? ADULT INVOLVEMENT Guide them with leadership and time management skills to accomplish what they want to do, if you are not a team member you should keep your hands off the computer and the LEGO. No PowerPoint editing, no presentation script writing, no presentation board designing. We expect coaches, mentors, teen mentors and parents of team members to honor this. WHAT IS ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED TO WIN AWARDS AT THE CHAMPIONSHIP
Oregon is fortunate to hold TWO FLL Championship Tournaments. These are separate events. Each is their own FLL Championship. We will award the same set of awards each day. There will be two 1st Place Co-Champions Award winners. By lottery at the end of Sunday’s awards ceremony, one of these teams will be selected to represent Oregon at the FLL World Festival in St. Louis in April. I am searching for an FLL Open Championship opportunity for the other team. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. J And one more note: If teams are planning to bring items to pass out to other teams, do not bring any food or candy items. Stickers ok, buttons ok, plastic tiny turtles or aliens fine, just no food. J Regards, |
