  Volunteer Roles

Tournament Roles

To successfully put on local tournaments and a State Ttournaments we will need several hundred volunteers to play a wide variety of roles. Please consider volunteering. We'd also appreciate it if you could spread the word to friends and associates. Here is a summary of some of roles volunteers can play:

Judges
assess the teams in many categories, including originality, problem solving and the ability to improvise. They also examine the robots' construction, mechanical principals, strategic design and programming applications.

Referees monitor the performance of the teams and the robots during the table competition and score the results after each round. There are also associated roles including table resetters and scorekeeper.

Load-in/Load-out Crew members set up tables, chairs, signs and equipment before the event and remove them afterward.

Members of the Pit/Bullpen Crew move teams through the pit (practice) and bullpen (waiting) areas for the competition rounds and monitor the practice tables.

The Registration / Information Crew checks in teams; directs participants, VIPs and parents to the proper areas; and answers questions.

The Security Crew ensures that attendees do not enter restricted areas and that teams adhere to site regulations.
