We have an opportunity to open the eyes of thousands of young people to the potential of technical careers. The opportunity takes the form of building and programming small robots based on kits made by LEGO. We have established a partnership with key Oregon outreach organizations. You can make the difference by becoming a program sponsor or a team sponsor. A flyer in Acrobat format is available for downloading and printing. We need individuals and organizations to sponsor teams for the upcoming fall season of the FIRST LEGO League in Oregon. We can help match you up with deserving teams. A sample team budget are available in Adobe Acrobat format. Please contact us for more information. We need over 200 volunteers to pair up with outreach classes and clubs. The existing teachers and club leaders will retain responsibility for their groups but they need technical assistance to introduce robotics and encourage the formation of robotics teams. We are holding training sessions for teachers, leaders, and industry volunteers to bring them up to speed on the robotics kits, how to introduce them to children, and how to prepare for the fall robotics tournament season. We need help from Oregon's employers to recruit these volunteers. While engineers and technicians are highly encouraged to volunteer, any professional who has some familiarity with technology and an interest in working with children will find that they can make a valuable contribution after attending a training session. We are interested in scheduling times when we can come to employer sites to make a short presentation about the program and answer employees' questions. In addition, we would be happy to provide material for employee newsletters and company intranets. Please contact us for more information. An Executive Summary of the ORTOP business plan is available in Acrobat format. Please contact us for more information. An report describing the 2002 ORTOP season is available to those considering becoming a sponsor or partner of the program. Please contact us for more information. |
